Delhi: Action Taken After Biker Dies in Pit, FIR Against Officials and Contractor

In Delhi's Janakpuri area, Kamal Dhyani, a 25-year-old bank employee, died after accidentally falling into a pit dug by the Water Board. Due to inadequate lighting and lack of warning signs, the tragic event occurred. The family spent the night seeking police assistance, but help was not timely. The police have now filed an FIR against the Delhi Water Board officials and the contractor involved.

Mere days after a software engineer's tragic drowning in a pit in Noida, another incident brings Delhi-NCR's system under scrutiny. Complacency and system failure continue unaddressed. And now, negligence has claimed another life in Delhi.

Kamal Dhyani, an assistant manager at a private bank, was on his way home from his office in Janakpuri. Little did he know, the ‘development’ along the road was a perilous pit.

In response to this, an FIR has been lodged against the contractor and Delhi Water Board officials under BNS Section 105.

A Promise to Be Home in 10 Minutes Unfulfilled

Around 11:45 PM, Kamal called home, reassuring his family he’d arrive in 10 minutes. But those 10 minutes never concluded. A deep pit on Joginder Singh Road awaited him, where his Apache bike and he plummeted.

Darkness, Pit, and a Neglectful System

With insufficient street lighting and an unmarked hazard, Kamal had no chance. Despite wearing a helmet, his injuries and lack of timely aid proved fatal.

No Barricades, No Warning Signs

The site of ongoing work lacked both proper barricades and warning signs. Kamal's family spent a night traversing police stations in Janakpuri, Sagarpur, Vikaspuri, and Rohini in a desperate search.

Pit in Road Leads to Tragedy, FIR Highlights Water Board Negligence

Police action under BNS Section 105 cites shortcomings, highlighting deep pits without safety measures or warnings. The biker was extracted with fire brigade assistance and taken to DDU Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. No eyewitnesses have come forward.

Police Inaction Sparks Serious Concerns

While claiming to trace Kamal’s location, police neglected the scene. Perhaps if tackled sooner, this loss could have been avoided. Following media coverage, Delhi's government reacted by suspending water board officials.

Noida to Delhi, the Same Story Repeated

Not long before, Noida’s Yuvraj drowned, shaking the nation. Yet, in a place indifferent to human life, familiar narratives persist, charring the capital's image once again. Token measures and political games ensue.

Actions Over Empty Gestures

Who to blame? The Water Board for unbarricaded pits claim another life? The police stations indifferent to a family's plea? Or politicians whose grand promises crumble?

Routine Road, Final Journey

Kamal regularly used the road for his commute to the call center in Rohini. Unaware the unmarked, open pit would seal his fate. The last call home marked his end.

Screams Lost in the Night

The pit claimed Kamal’s life, leaving only silent calls for help lost in darkness, inaudible amidst a blinded, deafened system.

Accident or Systemic Failure?

An accident or institutional manslaughter? A startling negligence, the pit sans barricades or warning signs, left to fate.

Local Legislator, Yet Just Suspensions

Delhi Water Minister Ashish Sood, also the area’s MLA, reacts post-factum, offering mere official suspensions as fixes.

While the minister claims token measures, questions loom: Will these acts stop further disasters? Officials emboldened by apathy carrying on as usual.

Why Not Charge for Negligent Homicide?

Why isn't there a negligent homicide charge against officials? Why not sue the seven police stations that led a family astray at night?

Scapegoats and the Same Old Script

Explain why no action against Water Minister Sood? This system, functioning uniformly under successive administrations, seeks a scapegoat to write off incidents, all in a ritual script. Because here, human life holds no value, be it Noida's Yuvraj or Delhi's Kamal.
