Much like Yuvraj from Noida, Kamal from Delhi tragically lost his life after falling into a pit. Late Monday night, Kamal was on his way back home from his office in Rohini. He kept in touch with his family during the journey, but concern rose when he didn’t arrive on time, prompting them to search for him.
His family claims they visited more than half a dozen police stations, including Janakpuri, Sagarpur, Vikaspuri, and Rohini, yet none took their complaint seriously.
Family members report that it wasn’t until 7:30 a.m. that police contacted them, revealing the tragic incident. Kamal was found with his bike in an open pit. The family blames the water board for negligence and suggests foul play, suspecting Kamal may have been murdered and disposed of in the pit. Police have assured they are investigating all angles.
Friends disclosed that Kamal worked at a bank's call center and had been taking the same route daily for three years. His last contact with his family was at 11:53 p.m., assuring them he had reached the district center and would reach home in about 15 minutes.
The Same Route, The Same Time… Yet Never Reached Home
Kamal was known to take the same route without delay. However, that night, as 15 minutes stretched to half an hour without his arrival, anxiety grew. Calls went unanswered. His family and friends began their search, scouring possible routes and intersections, but finding no sign of him.
Reaching the Police Station, Complaint Not Registered
That night, the family approached the Janakpuri police station to report Kamal missing. They alleged the police refused to register the complaint, stating a 24-hour period must elapse before doing so. The family implored the police to track the mobile location while the phone was active, and although an initial location was provided, it was quickly withdrawn, adding to the family's frustrations. They demand to know why a serious search wasn’t conducted in such a defined area.
'Night's Here, We'll See in the Morning'
Reports allege police dismissed further actions, claiming a nighttime search wasn’t possible and promised to form a team in the morning, suggesting the family return later to file a report. The distraught father, friends, and relatives spent the entire night seeking assistance across approximately seven police stations, including Janakpuri and Sagarpur, to no avail.
'This Happens Every Day, Boys Go Missing'
The family alleged that at Sagarpur station, they were told such incidents occur frequently. They collected Kamal's details and merely suggested circulating the information on a WhatsApp group. The family questioned the effectiveness of such routine procedures, emphasizing the importance of timely actions. As morning broke, just as the family was heading home, a call came to Kamal’s brother’s phone, revealing a tragic accident and the location tallied with previous mobile data.
A Deadly Open Pit
Upon arriving, the family found a large, unbarricaded pit on the road. In the darkness of night, the pit claimed Kamal’s life when his bike toppled in. Local residents noted inadequate lighting, absence of warning signs, and lack of safety barricades, with the pit left open for an extended period.
Accident or Negligence?
Relatives questioned the safety protocols if roadwork was ongoing. They asked why the path was not properly sealed if closed, challenging the accountability of agencies responsible for leaving such a hazard. Was it the municipal corporation or water board? Concerns arose about the road's excavation without coordination.
Questioning the Police's Role
The family stated police initially speculated Kamal was intoxicated, even as they asserted his routine sobriety and adherence to the same route. They believe a prompt, serious search might have unveiled the truth sooner.
Delhi Police Assert They Were with the Family All Night
Delhi Police stated they acted seriously once Kamal’s disappearance was reported. Family claims they reached Vikas Puri station by 12:30 a.m., where investigating officers gathered details, checked accident and MLC calls, and tracked phone locations around 2:30 a.m., converging around the incident site within 200 meters. The police remarked that search operations ensued with officers, including a head constable, deployed. The police averred constant contact with the family throughout the night.
They shared Kamal’s photo across district-level WhatsApp groups to alert more officers and expedite the search. Delhi Police added that a resident notified them at 8:03 a.m. the next day about a bike and a person in the pit. Emergency services arrived within three minutes, and Kamal’s body was retrieved by 8:30 a.m. Delhi Police assured focused investigation into all details surrounding the incident.
