Senior Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Ray is being accused of posting "false information" on X regarding the investigation of a rape and murder case at RG Kar Hospital. Consequently, Kolkata Police has issued him a notice and has summoned him to the police headquarters at 4 PM today.
In a tweet, Sukhendu Ray called for a rigorous investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), now handling the case. Ray emphasized, "The CBI must work impartially. It is crucial to detain and question the former principal and police commissioner to ascertain who propagated the suicide story and why? Why was the hall wall collapsed, who provided protection to make Roy so powerful? Why were sniffer dogs used three days later? Let these hundreds of questions be addressed."
Kolkata Police's Claim
In response to this post, the police sent a notice to Ray. They claimed that Ray tweeted "false information" about sniffer dogs being deployed three days after the crime. In a statement, Kolkata Police said, "The information that sniffer dogs were sent three days later is entirely incorrect. Sniffer dogs were sent twice, on the 9th and then the 12th (of August). Sukhendu Shekhar Ray has been issued a notice under section 35(1) of BNS."

Sukhendu Shekhar Speaks Out Loudly
Since the incident, Sukhendu Shekhar has been vocal. He had remarked right after the incident that this event disproved the claim that Kolkata is the safest city for women.
In another post, he stressed the need for a strict and comprehensive central act to ensure the safety of medical professionals in all hospitals, female students in schools and colleges, rape survivors in shelters, and female employees at workplaces. He stated that a bill towards this should be presented in the winter session of the Parliament.
Moreover, supporting doctors' protests on August 14, he wrote, 'I plan to join the protestors, particularly because like millions of Bengali families, I too have a daughter and a young granddaughter. We must stand together. The cruelty against women has gone too far. Let's all fight against it, no matter what. Why is there an attempt to shield the criminals? Anyone responsible for this crime should be hanged.'
Questions Persist about Sandeep Ghosh
Notably, the principal of RG Kar Medical College Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh, who has been questioned by Sukhendu Shekhar, has faced several allegations in the past. The CBI team has interrogated Sandeep Ghosh for hours. Earlier, even Kolkata High Court reprimanded Sandeep Ghosh. Akhtar Ali, the deputy superintendent of Murshidabad Medical College Hospital, has made explosive allegations against him.
Akhtar Ali commented, 'I have never seen a more corrupt individual than Sandeep Ghosh in my life. He is a very corrupted person. Failing students, taking a 20% cut in everything—the postings, house staff shifts, every transaction involved bribes. He even plied students with alcohol.'
Ali further alleged that Sandeep Ghosh maintained mafia-like control with 20 men constantly guarding him. 'I have seen film stars with bouncers, but never a medical college principal surrounded like this. He is very powerful. I filed a complaint against him in 2023, but nothing came of it.'
