In the bustling area of Jagatdal in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, a shocking crime unfolded on Wednesday as a dedicated Trinamool Congress leader was tragically shot dead by unknown assailants. The victim, Ashok Shaw, known for his leadership as the former TMC president of Jagatdal Ward No. 12, fell victim to this brutal attack.
Amidst the chaos, during the heinous attack, bombs were hurled, leaving several individuals severely injured. The victims are receiving immediate medical attention at a local hospital as the community grapples with this tragedy.
A senior police officer narrated the chilling incident, explaining how Ashok Shaw was standing innocently in front of a tea shop, just a short distance from the Jagatdal police station. It was here that the assailants launched their calculated assault, launching a flurry of bombs. The TMC leader, along with others, was grievously injured and rushed to the nearby Bhatpara State General Hospital, where he was unfortunately declared dead by attending doctors.
Among those injured, several are presently undergoing treatment. In response, the Commissioner of Police, Alok Rajoria, of Barrackpore Police Commissionerate, swiftly arrived at the scene with a substantial police force. "We have commenced a thorough investigation into this incident," Rajoria assured. "Several suspicious individuals are already being questioned, though no political connections to the murder have been established yet. The investigation is ongoing," he noted.
Recollection of past events surfaced as January bore witness to the murder of TMC leader Satyen Chaudhuri in Murshidabad, West Bengal, by unknown assailants. This incident shook the town of Berhampore's Chaltia. Assailants approached on bikes, and without hesitation, fired at the TMC leader. Despite being rushed to Murshidabad, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Satyen was once closely allied with Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury but later transitioned to the Trinamool Congress. Although over time, relationships with the ruling party had notably strained. Nonetheless, villains brazenly shot him from close range, sealing his tragic fate as he was later transported to Murshidabad Medical College post-injury.
