Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh were dealt a significant blow by the Tihar Jail administration. Citing the rules, the officials have denied both the permission to meet Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inside the jail.
On Wednesday, Punjab's CM Bhagwant Mann and Sanjay Singh were supposed to visit Tihar to meet Kejriwal, but the jail administration did not grant permission.
'Dates will be provided for the meeting'
The jail officials stated that they run according to their set regulations and the jail manual. On Wednesday, they received a letter requesting a meeting with Kejriwal. Today, the Director-General of Tihar will respond to this letter. The DG's reply will contain information regarding security and propose some dates for the potential meeting. Subsequently, Sanjay and Bhagwant Mann can opt to meet Kejriwal on these agreed-upon dates.
The list now includes the names of Sanjay and Bhagwant Mann
Expressing his desire to visit Tihar and meet Kejriwal, Punjab's CM Bhagwant Mann, according to jail regulations, Kejriwal had to submit a list of ten individuals he is allowed to meet to the jail administration. Initially, the list featured his family and party leader Sandeep Pathak's name, but later Kejriwal added both Bhagwant Mann's and Sanjay Singh's names.
The high court's ruling against Kejriwal sheds light on the issue of political party accountability and suggests that the Enforcement Directorate may soon implicate the Aam Aadmi Party as well.
