An alarming and tragic incident unfolded in Maharashtra's Thane district. During a mobile phone theft, a 26-year-old man fell from a moving train, resulting in his left leg being severed. The event took place around 7 AM on a Sunday morning between Shahad and Ambivli railway stations as the victim, Gaurach Ramdas Nikam, was traveling towards Nasik on the Tapovan Express.
According to the railway police, a 16-year-old boy waiting near the tracks hit Nikam's hand with a stick, causing him to lose balance and fall from the train. As a result, Nikam's left leg was severed by the train's wheels. Shockingly, while Nikam lay injured on the tracks, the minor continued to assault him with a stick and then seized his mobile phone before fleeing.
Following the crime, railway staff and passengers reported the incident to the police. A responsive team swiftly arrived and transported Nikam to a hospital. Doctors have declared him out of immediate danger, though he will require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation. The minor suspect is currently detained, and charges have been pressed according to the Indian Penal Code.
Police are investigating whether the suspect is affiliated with the 'Fatka Gang' and assessing his involvement in other occurrences. Notably, the 'Fatka Gang' has been active for years along Mumbai's suburban railway network, often lurking near tracks to ambush passengers standing by windows or doors to snatch their phones.
