The Governor of Telangana, Tamilisai Soundararajan, has submitted her resignation amid buzz of a return to the political fray. While holding additional charge as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Soundararajan, who was the leader of Tamil Nadu's BJP until 2019, seems to be gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections. In September 2019, she was appointed as the Governor of Telangana.
After Kiran Bedi's removal, Soundararajan took on the role of Puducherry's Lieutenant Governor. The daughter of veteran Congress leader Kumari Ananthan, Soundararajan has spent more than two decades with the BJP prior to her gubernatorial appointment.
The BJP's third list may include her name
As the former BJP Tamil Nadu President, there's a strong likelihood that Soundararajan will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu. Having tendered her resignation in Delhi, there is a possibility that her name might appear in the BJP's upcoming third list of candidates. Her resignation was sent to the President on Monday morning and might be accepted by the evening. If so, this marks Soundararajan’s re-entry into electoral politics after her tenure as Governor.
Faced defeat in 2019 elections
Hailing from the influential Nagar community, Tamilisai Soundararajan faced a significant defeat against DMK's Kanimozhi in Tuticorin during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. She may now be eyeing a comeback as a BJP candidate in the political arena.
