The continuing floods and heavy rains in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have led to severe damage, claiming lives and affecting numerous residents. So far, 9 people have died in Telangana and 8 in Andhra Pradesh due to rain-related incidents. In Telangana's Khammam district, 110 villages have been submerged, while 17 thousand people have been rescued to safer locations in Andhra Pradesh.

The past two days of relentless rains have created flood-like situations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. In Telangana's Khammam district, 110 villages have been completely submerged, while 17 thousand people have been rescued and relocated to safer areas in Andhra Pradesh.

The continuous downpour has claimed 9 lives in Telangana and 8 in Andhra due to rain-related incidents. Amid these conditions, the Paleru Bridge near the Andhra-Telangana border was severely damaged. A section of the bridge has washed away, obstructing the national highway and forcing many to spend the night on roads.

9.7 Lakh Cusecs of Water Released

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, stated that over 2.7 lakh people’s lives have been disrupted by the floodwaters across Vijayawada’s numerous areas. Naidu mentioned that up to Sunday night, 9.7 lakh cusecs of floodwater were released from Prakasam Barrage, marking a flood level not seen since 1998 when 9.24 lakh cusecs were released. This time, the water release has exceeded by 50 thousand cusecs.

Locals to the Rescue

Amid the catastrophic floods in various parts of Telangana, a rescue story of a family stands out. In Khammam, a family was rescued by local heroes. Akula Rani, a resident of Khammam, narrates, 'Our family stranded in Khammam was saved with the help of relatives and swimmers. None from the police or administration came to our aid.'

Yellow Alert for Various States

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Telangana, Vidarbha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Karnataka, and Marathwada. Additionally, Kerala, coastal Maharashtra, and parts of central Maharashtra may experience heavy rainfall. The weather department has issued a yellow alert regarding these conditions. Meanwhile, some regions in eastern Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, eastern Rajasthan, and Gujarat may also witness heavy rainfall today.
