In Bihar, the alleged disrespect towards Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson, Tushar Gandhi, sparked criticism from opposition leader and RJD's Tejashwi Yadav against the ruling NDA government. Tejashwi shared a video apologizing to Tushar Gandhi on behalf of the people of Bihar, calling the incident a dishonor to Gandhian ideology.
Tushar Gandhi at a Historic Venue
On Monday, Tushar Gandhi visited Turkauli village in East Champaran, significant for being the site of Gandhi's first Satyagraha. At a Panchayat building event, a person engaged in a heated debate with Tushar. The individual told Tushar, 'The Modi government is doing good work, and so is the Nitish government. As a descendant of Gandhi, you should be ashamed of not accepting this truth.'
RJD claims this person is linked to BJP and claims to be of Gandhi's caste. After the incident, Tushar Gandhi had to leave the Panchayat building, after which he addressed a public meeting outside.
'Bihar Needs Change'
Speaking to reporters, Tushar Gandhi mentioned, 'Bihar needs change. The NDA government has not fulfilled its promises. The grand alliance could be an option, but even after coming to power, I will hold them accountable.'
'Nitish Kumar's Frequent U-Turns'
Criticizing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, he noted that he had suggested adding 'Satyagraha' to the name of Champaran—a proposal Nitish initially accepted but has now forgotten. Tushar humorously remarked that frequent flip-flops are common in his politics.
In his speech, Tushar Gandhi stated, 'It's been a long time since Bapu's passing, yet Godse's ideology persists. Today's attempts to suppress dissenting voices continue.'
The crowd at the public meeting chanted 'Inquilab Zindabad,' showing their support for Tushar Gandhi. This incident highlights the ideological clash and discourse in Bihar politics ahead of elections.
