A shocking blackmailing incident has emerged involving a misguided and technologically skilled security guard who has been apprehended. This 25-year-old guard manufactured fake explicit photos of women and posted them online.
The security guard had completed a diploma in Information Technology, and using tools like Deepfake, he crafted fake sexual images which he then posted on phony social media platforms. Today, we guide you on how to secure your photos and videos.
Are You Making These Social Media Mistakes?
Today, learn how to protect your photos and videos on social media platforms. Many cyber scammers download photos and videos and manipulate them into fake ones using specialized software. Often, these fake images become quite explicit, and are used for blackmail.
Privacy Settings are Effective Too
To keep your pictures and videos safe on social media, it's vital to make your account private. Doing so ensures that your content is only shared with your friends.
Avoid Sharing Personal Details
Be cautious not to attach your personal details when sharing photos or videos on social media. Often, people share locations, home addresses, or other sensitive information, which can prove dangerous.
He Would Then Contact the Victims and Blackmail Them
The security guard would post fake accounts with false images on social media, then contact women, blackmailing them to remove the fake videos and photos. During this time, he would ask women to undress on video calls.
The perpetrator created numerous fake Instagram accounts. On these accounts, he'd use the real names of women who ignored his friend requests, then post their fake explicit photos and videos. A similar case unfolded in Mumbai, where a 19-year-old student filed a police complaint, leading to the arrest of the security guard.
Over 100 Email IDs Found
Media reports indicate the accused had over 100 fake Gmail IDs, which he used to create false Instagram accounts to blackmail women. Over 13,500 screenshots were found in his possession.
Misleading Captions on Social Media Posts
The security guard would post photos and videos with misleading captions. When women contacted him, he'd press them to delete the media in exchange for blackmail.
This case came to light when a 19-year-old BSc student noticed two additional accounts in her name. Blocking them, she spoke to a friend and subsequently filed a complaint. Police tracked the victim by IP address and promptly arrested the suspect.
Arrested in Bangalore
The suspect was arrested in a factory area in Bangalore where he worked as a security guard. The accused held a diploma in Information Technology and knowledge in HTML, networking, and software design, which he used for criminal activities. Police presented him in front of a magistrate on June 16.
