Taiwan reinforces its air defense amidst looming threats by successfully testing its new indigenous system, known as Land Sword 2. This ground-to-air missile system, also termed as Sky Sword 2, is a product of Taiwan's National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology.
Initially set for April 9th, the test was postponed to April 15th due to bad weather conditions. Launched from Jiupeng Military Base in Pingtung County, the missiles hit their targets with precision. Taiwan plans to replace the Chaparral air defense system with the newly tested system.

Experts speculate the missile system's range to be 15 kilometers, capable of bringing down enemy aircraft, helicopters, jets, drones, and cruise missiles. The system features a 360-degree target recognition capability and the ability to fire upon acquired targets.

Taiwan aims to integrate Land Sword 2 with the Stinger man-portable air defense system and the Avenger air defense system to strengthen the nation's multi-layered air defense strategy. An engagement control vehicle will serve as the command center for the Land Sword 2 system, orchestrating the target tracking and missile launching processes.

The system also includes a sophisticated radar that continuously tracks the target until missile impact, a launch vehicle from which the missile is fired, and an ammunition carrier housing the Land Sword missiles.
