The main suspect, Ashfaq Kawwa, wanted in the notorious public murder case of textile businessman Alok Agarwal in Surat's Limbayat area, is now in police custody. The Surat Crime Branch captured him in the Dungra area of Vapi in Valsad district. At the time of arrest, Ashfaq attacked the police with a knife, after which the police fired back, hitting his leg. The injured suspect was given primary treatment before being transported back to Surat.
The incident occurred on August 2nd near Parvat Patia under Limbayat police station, where Alok Agarwal was brutally stabbed to death. CCTV footage revealed three to four attackers stabbing him approximately 60 times. While police had previously apprehended two other suspects, the contract issuer, Ashfaq Kawwa, remained on the run.

According to reports, Alok Agarwal humiliated Ashfaq by slapping him publicly a few days prior, inciting Ashfaq to order his associates to carry out the murder. He then escaped and was hiding in Vapi, Valsad area with an accomplice.
The Crime Branch obtained intelligence about his whereabouts, and the police team took action. When apprehended, Ashfaq attacked Police Inspector J.N. Goswami with a knife, forcing the inspector to fire a shot with his service revolver, hitting Ashfaq's leg. The injured suspect was immediately transferred to Hariya Hospital in Vapi for initial treatment before being brought to Surat.
Crime Branch DCP Bhavesh Rohit declared that Ashfaq Kawwa has about five to six prior cases against him. He has been hiding in various locations across Gujarat and Maharashtra. The police have been persistently raiding locations to achieve his capture. Charges against Ashfaq not only include planning the murder but also attempting to murder a police officer during arrest. A case for the latter has been registered at Dungra police station in Valsad.
