Following a controversial post on Congress leader Supriya Shrinate's Instagram account about actress Kangana Ranaut, a fiery debate has erupted. Kangana retorted that people 'should abstain from using the challenging lives or situations of sex workers as a form of insult or abuse.'
BJP has selected Kangana Ranaut as its Lok Sabha candidate from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. Following an offensive caption accompanying a picture of Kangana posted on the Congress leader's social media, which sparked some dispute, the post was later deleted, but Kangana too had responded fiercely.
Supriya Shrinate has now claimed in a statement that her social media accounts are accessed by numerous individuals. "Many people have access to my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Someone posted an extremely detestable and objectionable post today which I promptly removed upon learning of it," she explained.
"Those who know me are aware that I never speak ill of any woman on a personal level. I've learned that this post was initially running on a parody account (@Supriyaparody) and from there someone posted it on my account. I am trying to identify the responsible party," she added.
Kangana Ranaut didn't hesitate to express her opinion on the post, emphasizing that 'all women are entitled to their dignity.' She stated, 'We should liberate our daughters from the shackles of prejudice, rise above curiosity concerning their body parts, and most importantly, avoid using sex workers enduring challenging lives or situations as insults or abuse... every woman deserves her dignity.'
Union Minister Smriti Irani also commented amidst the controversy. Re-sharing Kangana's post, she remarked, 'Kangana, your political debut does not reflect who you are but what you have done and are capable of doing because they fail to understand how to treat strong women.'
National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma also took to the platform to write, 'Kangana, you are a fighter, a shining star. Those who feel insecure perform such despicable acts. Keep shining. All the best.'
Actress and BJP leader Khushbu Sundar condemned Supriya Shrinate's grossly indecent post. 'It's shocking because it's done by a woman. Remember, you were born to a mother and are one yourself. When certain of defeat, ready to go to any extent to please your masters. Will Congress dismiss Supriya, or will any action be taken?'
