The Supreme Court has issued a significant verdict on the murder case of Jiyaurrahman in 2022 at the village of Islamnagar, Saharanpur. The court recognized the case as an honor killing, highlighting it as a calculated murder rather than unintended manslaughter.
Jiyaurrahman was a student alongside a girl named Tanu from the same village, and their friendship displeased her family members. On the night of November 1, 2022, her family called Jiyaurrahman to their home and ruthlessly beat him with sticks, leading to his death en route to the hospital.
Honour Killing Case Registered Following Supreme Court’s Order
Initially, the police had filed a case under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against the accused—Bhuru alias Janeshwar, Maneshwar Saini, Priyanshu, and Shivam. However, the victim’s father, Ayyub Ali, approached the court, alleging his son’s murder was an honor killing.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court emphatically declared that the killing was intentional and mandated that the trial be conducted under Section 302 of the IPC. They instructed the DGP to reinvestigate the case, forming an SIT led by DIG Ajay Kumar Sahni.
Girl’s Family Brutally Assaulted Due to Romantic Affair
Shortly after the incident, the girl, Tanu, also died, with her family attributing it to suicide. Yet, the deceased’s family claims she might have been killed. The victim’s family expressed contentment over the Supreme Court’s decision, sensing justice on the horizon.
