The Supreme Court is slated to examine a Special Leave Petition (SLP) tendered by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader, and the state's former Chief Minister Hemant Soren on April 1st. The petition seeks permission for him to participate in the Assembly's budget session, following the rejection of his plea by the PMLA court and the High Court.
The Special Leave Petition is scheduled for a hearing before the bench of Justice Suryakant and KV Vishwanathan. Soren argues in his plea that denying his attendance in the upcoming budget session of the Assembly is improper and the apex court should grant him permission to attend future sessions.
It's worth noting that a special PMLA court has recently extended Hemant Soren's judicial custody until April 4th. Officials reported that Soren had appeared before the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court via video conferencing. He was remanded to judicial custody until February 22nd by the PMLA court on February 15th. Following his resignation as Chief Minister, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested him on the night of January 31st, and since then, he has been held at the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Hotwar, Ranchi.
Kalpana Soren, who recently joined JMM, has accused the opposition of conspiring against her husband following his jail sentence. She affirmed that the resilient people of Jharkhand would not bow down and would re-elect him with their votes in the future.
The former CM of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, was arrested on the night of January 31st by the ED in connection with a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam. ED had interrogated him for about 7 hours before the arrest. After his arrest, he was taken to the ED office. The ED had issued 10 summons to Soren, who took office as the CM of Jharkhand on December 29th, 2019.
