The Supreme Court has granted custody parole to Tahir Hussain, a former councilor of the Aam Aadmi Party and a Delhi riots accused. This parole allows him to campaign for the Delhi Assembly Elections.
Under the supervision of the court, Tahir Hussain has been given 12-hour custody parole each day, from January 29 to February 3, in accordance with jail hours. However, he is not permitted to visit his home during this period.
Hussain must bear the expenses of his custody parole, amounting to nearly two lakh rupees over two days. This amount will cover the costs for the staff assigned to him and the prison van service.
While Hussain is allowed to visit the party office and attend meetings in his constituency, he is restricted from going home. Additionally, he must refrain from making any statements regarding pending court cases.
Significantly, Asaduddin Owaisi's party, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), has chosen Tahir Hussain as its candidate for the Mustafabad seat in the Delhi Assembly Elections. It is noteworthy that on February 24, 2020, communal violence erupted in Northeast Delhi, resulting in the death of 53 individuals and injuring many more.
Tahir Hussain is accused in a case related to the murder of Ankit Sharma, an Intelligence Bureau officer, during the Delhi riots. On February 26, 2020, Ravinder Kumar reported his son Ankit Sharma missing at the Dayalpur Police Station. Ankit's body was later found in a drain in the riot-stricken Khajuri Khas area. The post-mortem revealed 51 injury marks on his body.
