Enigmatic Spiritual Leader Bhole Baba

: In the wake of a tragic stampede at a spiritual gathering led by Bhole Baba, also known as Surajpal or Narayan Sakar Hari, the difficulty in taking direct legal action is evident despite the absence of any named FIR against him. While no principal suspects have been appointed in the calamity that led to the death of 121 attendees, the priest's clout among backed communities makes the case against Narayan Sakar Hari appear weaker.

Top police sources clarify that although numerous old cases against Bhole Baba have been reported by the media, none of them are actually registered against Surajpal or Narayan Sakar Hari. Notably, in 2000, Baba was arrested following accusations of attempting to revive a deceased girl through rituals over two days—a case now closed with a final report filed, leaving no current leads for further police action.

When asked about action against Narayan Sakar Hari, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mentioned that should investigations post an initial FIR reveal further evidence, it would be incorporated, though he made no specific comments on proceeding against the Baba himself.

FIR Named Only Servants

Inspector General of the Aligarh Range, Shalabh Mathur, acknowledged that the servants' role came to light first, hence only their names feature in the FIR. Not even high-profile politicians are calling for Baba's arrest or exerting pressure on the government, resulting in the current focus on the detained servants belonging to a specific community.

Baba's Influence Persists Despite Absence

While Baba may be laying low, there has been no direct action taken against him. The six people who were arrested are all his aides. Yet no charges or cases have been officially filed against Narayan Sakar Hari to date.

Baba's Devotees Belong to This Brotherhood

Most of Narayan Sakar Hari's devotees and supporters are from the Jatav and Dalit communities. From legislators to soldiers, his influence over these communities is considerable, raising concerns that government action might ignite anger among them. His large monthly gatherings draw crowds in the millions, predominantly Dalits and other disadvantaged groups. The recent Agra incident saw 17 fatalities, including 14 women from the Jatav community, suggesting the Baba's tangible impact in halting religious conversions within these circles, as Dalits who may have been inclined towards Buddhism or Christianity appear to remain due to his influence, putting any political decision for action under careful scrutiny.
