Following the emergence of harrowing cases involving the mistreatment and violence against women in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, opposition leader and BJP legislator Suvendu Adhikari has unleashed a fierce critique aimed at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Adhikari poignantly suggests dropping the endearing term 'Sister' for Banerjee, instead referring to her as 'Auntie', reflecting a political defeat imposed on her during the Nandigram electoral tussle. 'After my victory against her, she filed 42 cases against me,' he articulated, defining her as a ruthless figure.
Adhikari declared that his party is steadfast in its mission to usher in a 'Double Engine Government' and terminate the tenure of Banerjee’s administration in West Bengal.
The remarks came as he addressed a panel discussion on political violence in West Bengal at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Speaking about ongoing protests in the Sandeshkhali block of North 24 Parganas district, Adhikari accused the ruling Trinamool Congress Party of inciting violence against Hindus.
'Today, Hindus in West Bengal are in danger under the TMC government. The party is altering the state’s demographics by infiltrating and settling Bangladeshi migrants. If unchallenged, this government will progressively integrate West Bengal into Bangladesh,' Adhikari claimed.
Criticizing incidents of sexual violence against women and land encroachment in the Sandeshkhali block, Adhikari, a former TMC member before joining BJP, asserted that students at JNU should raise their voice against these issues.
'JNU is a hub for critical discourse, and the students must speak out against what is transpiring in West Bengal to topple the collusive government,' Adhikari asserted.
He disclosed that the unrest in Sandeshkhali stems from allegations of land encroachment and sexual harassment against TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his supporters.
