Skoda Kylaq Crash Test Safety Rating:
Recently, Skoda launched the Kylaq in India as its most affordable car. Priced from just 7.89 lakh rupees, this car marked the company's entry into the sub-four-meter compact SUV segment. The SUV has now been subjected to a crash test by the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP), attaining an impressive five-star safety rating (5 Star Safety Rating).
The crash test report from Bharat-NCAP reveals that the SUV scored 30.88 out of 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test, and 45 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP). It has emerged as the top-performing ICE-powered (petrol-diesel) sub-four-meter SUV in the Bharat NCAP crash tests so far.
Tested Variant:
BNCAP tested the top-spec Kylaq Prestige variant with a manual gearbox, but the safety rating applies to the entire Kylaq lineup, including Classic, Signature, and Signature+ variants. Except for the entry-level Classic, all trims offer an automatic transmission option.
How Safe is Kylaq for Adults:
As noted, Skoda Kylaq scored 30.88 out of 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test. During the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it scored 15.04 out of 16 points. The report indicates excellent safety for the driver's head, neck, and right leg. Adequate protection is also stated for the chest area. For the front passenger, the head, neck, chest, and legs are also well-protected. In the side movable deformable barrier test, it scored 15.84 out of 16 points, indicating good protection for the head and lower back. The side pole impact test also gave the SUV a "good" rating.
Child Safety:
In the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test, the SUV scored 45 out of 49 points. It achieved a perfect 24 out of 24 in the dynamic test and 12 out of 12 in the CRS installation assessment test. In terms of vehicle assessment, it scored 9 out of 13 points. BNCAP tested this SUV using child seats with dummies of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old.
