In a significant move against drugs, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Chandigarh unit achieved a major breakthrough. The long-wanted fugitive and famed Punjabi singer Jagseer Singh, also known as Kala or Baj Saran, was captured on August 6 in an old case involving 36.150 kg of opium.

This notorious figure from Sirsa, Haryana, was implicated in a case registered in 2015. Despite his knack for evading capture by continuously changing his identity and location, the NCB has been hot on his trail since 2016. Even after nearly a decade on the run, he could not escape the vigilant eyes of the NCB.

Intriguingly, during his fugitive years, Jagseer Singh crafted a new persona as a singer on social media. He uploaded numerous songs under a pseudonym on platforms like YouTube and Instagram, earning millions of views and admirers.

He even shot music videos with a renowned female Punjabi singer from Punjab during his time on the lam, amplifying his popularity while his true identity remained cloaked.

In May 2025, NCB publicized his photos in newspapers, attaching a bounty of 50,000 rupees for his capture. It was this publicity that led to a solid tip-off, ultimately resulting in his arrest.

NCB officials hailed the arrest as a pivotal victory against the drug mafia, hoping this move will unravel vital insights into the wider drug network.
