The thrilling second test match between India and South Africa kicked off on Saturday at Guwahati's vibrant field. Rishabh Pant is at the helm for Team India as Shubman Gill is sidelined due to injury. During the coin toss, Pant updated on Gill's injury. Gill's neck injury from the first test has kept him out of the historic Guwahati test. Sai Sudharsan, who was benched last match, has replaced Gill in the playing eleven for this test.

What Rishabh Pant Said About the Injury

Despite losing the toss once more, captain Pant shared that even though Shubman was eager to play the second test, his body was not in favor. Stand-in captain Pant assured that Gill is steadily recovering and promised a stronger comeback.

Pant remarked, 'Shubman is gradually improving. He was eager to participate in the match but his body wasn't allowing it. He will return stronger than ever.'

Gill has been released from the squad and will head to Mumbai to further his recovery. Although he will not visit the BCCI CoE physio, Gill will stay in Mumbai for the coming days and report to Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala.

Shubman was hospitalized after the second day of the first test due to neck pain while attempting a sweep shot. Following a graceful return from retired hurt, Gill was seen watching the match with a neck brace before being taken to the hospital. After a two-day hospital stay, he was discharged last Sunday.

Although he arrived with the team in Guwahati on Wednesday, he was ruled out of the second test on the eve of the match.
