Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has launched a robust political attack on Mohammed Yunus. Sheikh Hasina declared that Mohammed Yunus has lost his 'adorable image' in the eyes of the people, as they now realize the magnitude of his deceit, corruption, and terrorism. During a virtual address, she issued a stern warning to the Yunus government for threatening her Awami League party, asserting it is not a 'parasite' nor emerged with floodwaters.
After the alleged student-led overthrow in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina has been residing in India, where she addresses her Awami League activists from.
Sheikh Hasina exclaimed, 'The audacity of the interim government astonishes me.'
She reminisced about the history of Bangladesh, mentioning that in 1948, under the leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Awami League was established to campaign for the rights of East Pakistan's people, spearheading the independence struggle.
The 77-year-old Sheikh Hasina reminded everyone of Bangladesh's history, asserting, 'The country they now reside in was named by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib. He unified the people of Bengal through the organizational framework of the Awami League and led the country to independence. This fact should never be forgotten.'
She questioned the authority of those demanding a ban, stating that Yunus himself acts like a fascist by repressing workers, teachers, students, and others who strive to campaign for their rightful demands.
It should be noted that the newly-formed student party NCP and some radical parties have vowed to dismantle the Awami League and bury the constitution of 1972, which they referred to as Mujib’s charter.
Surprisingly, the demand for a ban on the Awami League received no positive response from its arch-rival, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and most other political groups.
The former Prime Minister severely criticized Yunus, labeling him a usurper who lacks any constitutional foundation or mandate to lead the country. He allegedly seized power through a 'planned conspiracy' utilizing foreign funds, misleading ordinary students and citizens.
Pointing to the defiant students, she mentioned, 'They probably didn't grasp the full plan back then. Now, they might realize it, and I hold no grudge against them.'
Sheikh Hasina declared, 'However, those who executed this plan with Yunus's money will one day be judged on Bangladeshi soil. How will Yunus evade his misdeeds... his real face has been unveiled to the people worldwide.'
She emphasized that Mohammed Yunus has lost his 'adorable image' among people as they understand how much of a 'fraud, corrupt, and terrorist' he is.
'He didn't ascend to power through any popular movement but by a cunning strategy... What legitimacy do his orders bear? Does Yunus or his advisory council hold any legitimacy?' continued Haseena, intensifying her criticisms.
Without naming NCP leaders but addressing their demands to ban her party, she remarked, 'Their courage astonishes me.'
She concluded that they should not assume she's abandoned everything. As per the constitution, as the elected representative of the people and chosen candidate of the parliament members, she is the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, rendering Yunus’s governance without legitimacy.
