An FIR has now been filed against Wajahat Khan, the complainant in the Sharmistha Panoli case, on allegations of inciting hatred and offending religious sentiments through the use of objectionable language on social media.
This case has been registered at the Golf Green Police Station in Kolkata. Authorities have filed the complaint under sections 196(1)(a), 299, 352, and 353(1)(c) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), based on a written complaint by a local individual.
According to police sources, multiple similar complaints against Wajahat Khan have surfaced in various police stations across Kolkata. Another complaint has been registered at the Garden Reach Police Station, where the main FIR against Sharmistha Panoli was filed.
FIR Filed in Assam, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Tweets
An FIR has also been lodged against Wajahat Khan in Assam. Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, posted on X acknowledging the registration of a case by @assampolice in reference to comments made by an individual against Goddess Kamakhya. He expressed the state's intent to seek cooperation from the West Bengal government in bringing the individual to justice.
A BJP leader from Bengal, Tarunjoyti Tiwari, has filed a complaint against Khan. This was reported to the Bidhan Nagar Cyber Crime Police Station.

An exclusive report by India Today has traced Wajahat Khan's residence. Reports indicate that Khan has been missing since last Sunday night. Speaking on this matter, his father, Saadat Khan, stated, 'My son is innocent and has always embraced a secular ideology. He would never insult Hinduism.'
Saadat Khan also mentioned receiving continuous threats since Sharmistha's arrest. He claimed that Wajahat's social media accounts were hacked, emphasizing, 'We respect all religions and believe everyone in the country should honor each other's beliefs.'
