Before the assembly elections in Maharashtra this year, Sharad Pawar has made it clear that his party will not compromise on seat sharing within the MVA. A leader from the Nationalist Congress Party-SP quoted their supreme leader Sharad Pawar saying that the NCP (SP) agreed to contest fewer seats during the Lok Sabha elections to ensure the alliance with Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress remained intact, but the situation will be different in assembly elections.
Sharad Pawar held two meetings in Pune on Friday - one with party officials from Pune city and district, and the second with his legislators and newly-elected MPs. According to news agency PTI, Prashant Jagtap, the President of Pune city NCP (Sharad Pawar), said - during the meeting, Sharad Pawar informed us that the party fought fewer seats in the Lok Sabha elections to keep the coalition with Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress.
Jagtap mentioned, 'Sharad Pawar hinted that the situation will be different in the assembly elections.' Sharad Pawar also reviewed the status of assembly constituencies under Pune, Baramati, Maval, and Shirur Lok Sabha seats. A party leader attending the second meeting mentioned that Sharad Pawar urged MPs and legislators to prepare for assembly elections. Meanwhile, Maharashtra NCP (SP) chief Jayant Patil told the press that the party has yet to decide how many seats it will demand under the MVA seat-sharing agreement.
Will NCP (SP) field a candidate for the upcoming elections in the Baramati Assembly seat? On this question, Jayant Patil said, our leader Sharad Pawar will decide. Let us inform you that Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar currently represents the Baramati Assembly seat. Another senior leader from NCP (SP), Anil Deshmukh, responded to a question, stating, 'There is no big brother or little brother in the MVA. All are equal.'
Deshmukh claimed that after the Lok Sabha results, there was significant anxiety among the legislators with Ajit Pawar's faction, and some of them called Jayant Patil and other NCP (SP) leaders. He said, 'Let's see what needs to be done with them.' For your information, Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) won 8 out of 10 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, while the Ajit Pawar-led NCP contested 4 seats and won only 1 of them.
Sharad Pawar discussed the party's stance and the upcoming assembly elections strategy.
Thorough assessment of the constituencies under Pune, Baramati, Maval, and Shirur Lok Sabha seats was done.
