On Friday, the Shahjahanpur police in Uttar Pradesh arrested six individuals accused of defrauding online stock market investors out of millions. These suspects lured investors with the promise of triple returns on their investments and extracted money via QR codes. They showcased fake websites displaying imaginary profits to deceive their victims.
The accused have been identified as Twinkle Gupta, Prajwal Saxena, Nihal Saxena, Divyanshu, Siddhant Mishra, and Rohit Rathore, all residents of Shahjahanpur district. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi revealed that the scam came to light when a complaint on the cyber helpline highlighted frequent fraudulent calls from a specific mobile number.
Fraudulent Methodology and Network
According to the police, this gang attracted investors by promising triple returns and sent them links. Subsequently, they collected money via QR codes. Investigations uncovered their network stretching across states like Delhi, Gujarat, Bihar, and others. The suspects urged investors to gather additional funds from others, which they then transferred into various accounts.
Seized Evidence and Equipment
The police seized laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards, printers, and other equipment used in the fraud. Authorities reported multiple complaints against the accused in other states as well. Legal proceedings against the apprehended suspects have commenced, and the investigation is ongoing.
