Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has experienced another setback while incarcerated in Tihar Jail. A plea for insulin demand and medical advice via video conferencing has been dismissed by the court of Rouse Avenue in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party has been causing a stir over the non-provision of insulin to Kejriwal for over a week.
Kejriwal's petition had requested the authorities in Tihar Jail to issue directions to provide him with insulin and permit a daily 15-minute consultation with a doctor via video conference to monitor his blood sugar levels and manage his diabetes. However, the court has dismissed this petition.
Kejriwal Pens Letter to Tihar Administration
Prior to this, Kejriwal had written a letter to the Tihar Jail authorities. In the letter, he accused the jail administration of lying about not providing him with insulin. Kejriwal stated, 'I have read the Tihar administration's statement in the newspaper, which saddened me. Both statements from Tihar are false; I have been requesting insulin daily.'
'Officers Lying Under Political Pressure'
He elaborated further, 'I have shown them my glucometer readings, indicating my sugar levels are reaching alarming highs of 250 to 320 three times a day. AIIMS doctors never dismissed my concern lightly and assured me they would make recommendations after reviewing the data and my medical history. But it appears Tihar administration is lying under political pressure.'
ED and Tihar Administration Oppose the Petition
Delhi's PWD Minister Aatishi, in a press conference, raised questions about the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) conduct in investigating money laundering related to the alcohol scandal. She revealed that Kejriwal had filed an application in the Rouse Avenue Court to resume insulin and consult with his diabetes specialist. Both the ED and the Tihar Jail administration had opposed Kejriwal's plea in court.
