It's the result day of the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections. This time, all eyes are on the Muslim-majority seats of Seemanchal. This region has become a political laboratory for Muslim politics in Bihar, where not only Congress, RJD, and JD(U) are being tested, but also AIMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi.

In the 2020 Bihar election, Asaduddin Owaisi's party, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), stirred the political waters by winning five seats in the Seemanchal area. With Muslim votes playing a crucial role, a heated battle is underway among four political parties. The burning question remains: who will reign supreme in Seemanchal?

What’s at stake in Seemanchal seats?

Located in the northeastern part of Bihar, Seemanchal includes Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia, and Katihar districts. The Muslim voter percentage in the 24 seats of Seemanchal ranges from 30% to 65%. Congress is contesting 12 seats, RJD 9, VIP 2, and CPI-ML one seat in the Seemanchal region. As for the NDA, BJP is contesting 11 seats, JD(U) 10, and LJP(R) three seats. AIMIM candidates are testing their luck on 15 seats in Seemanchal.

Owaisi's reputation hangs in the balance

Asaduddin Owaisi marked his entry into Bihar politics from the Seemanchal area. In the 2020 elections, Owaisi disrupted the political equation by winning five seats and challenging the grand alliance. AIMIM captured seats like Amour, Bahadurganj, Baisi, Jokihat, and Kochadhaman.

The five seats won by Owaisi's AIMIM saw grand alliance candidates in third place, particularly in Amour, Bahadurganj, and Baisi. In 2020, NDA won 12 seats in Seemanchal (8 by BJP, 4 by JD(U)), the grand alliance won 7 seats (5 Congress, 1 RJD, and 1 CPI-ML), while AIMIM secured 5 seats.
