In a startling scene that has stirred the public conscience across social media, an e-rickshaw in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, was spotted with school children tied with a rope, blowing the lid off the safety practices—or lack thereof—of the transport and educational departments, and highlighting laxity in district administration. Acting upon the viral video, the transportation department swiftly imposed a fine of nearly 8,200 INR on the e-rickshaw, patting themselves for quick reckoning.
The education department, meanwhile, repeats well-rehearsed promises of thorough investigations and subsequent actions. Eagle-eyed members of the local Road Safety Committee did not miss an e-rickshaw carrying tied-up children while they were out spreading voter awareness on the Chetan Chauhan Road in Amroha.
Committee member Anil Jagga spotted the e-rickshaw loaded with roped-in school-goers. He halted the vehicle, inquired, and captured the concerning scene on video. The video also included footage of the e-rickshaw's driver.
The driver revealed that the e-rickshaw belonged to his uncle and admitted he lacked a driving license. Informed of these details, Anil Jagga summoned the transport department to the spot, ensuing the issuance of the fine against the e-rickshaw. Subsequently, the committee member shared the video on social media, drawing wide attention to the matter.
Basic Education Officer assures a thorough investigation will follow
Dr. Monika, the Basic Education Officer, responds to the incident with a pledge of impartial investigation and notice issuance to the involved school. She also called upon parents to verify the safety of the transport they use for their children, stressing the importance of child safety and condemning the inhumane treatment revealed. The incident is under further investigation and rigorous action against the guilty parties is promised.
