Recent developments have emerged in the sex scandal involving Prajwal Revanna, MP from Hassan of the Janata Dal (Secular). Sources claim that following the Karnataka government’s decision to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the case, Revanna has fled the country.
According to India Today, on Saturday, following a recommendation by the Chairperson of the Women's Commission, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's government ordered the formation of an SIT. Subsequently, Revanna departed from Bengaluru to Frankfurt, Germany, early this morning. Moreover, the JD(S) called for an emergency press conference at its headquarters at 11 AM.
People Trying to Defame Revanna: JD(S) Leader
JD(S) and BJP election agent Poornachandra Tejaswi MG filed a complaint with the police, stating Naveen Gowda and others have circulated a supposedly defamatory video of Revanna with malicious intent.
The FIR alleges that Naveen Gowda and his accomplices manipulated videos and images and disseminated them via USB drives, CDs, and WhatsApp to vilify Revanna amongst voters in the Hassan constituency, urging them not to vote for him.
Chairperson of the Women's Commission Demands SIT
Revanna’s supposed video clips surfaced just two days before voting was scheduled in the Hassan parliamentary constituency, leading the Women's Commission Chairperson to call for the formation of an SIT. On Saturday, April 27, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed the establishment of an SIT.
Announcing the SIT’s formation on various social media platforms, the government stated that the viral explicit video clips in Hassan district seemed to involve sexual exploitation of women.
The SIT will be led by an ADGP-ranked officer and will include 3 SP-ranked officers, including a female SP.
It should be noted that Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of former PM H. D. Deve Gowda, son of former Karnataka minister H. D. Revanna, and the sitting MP for Hassan. He has been re-nominated by his party for the Hassan parliamentary seat for the current elections.
