NALSA (National Legal Services Authority) is launching a special campaign to provide legal assistance to victims in Manipur. On March 22, a delegation of Supreme Court judges led by Justice Gavai will visit Manipur. Accompanying him will be Justice Suryakant, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice KV Viswanathan, and Justice Kotishwar Singh. This distinguished team will examine the legal and humanitarian assistance available, discussing the needs and challenges faced by displaced people and potential solutions.
A team of doctors from Chennai will also visit to offer medical care tailored to the needs of the riot-affected and displaced individuals. Additionally, efforts will be made to address issues concerning lost or damaged property or personal documents during the disturbances in Manipur.
Why NALSA Was Formed?
Through its popular Lok Adalats campaign, NALSA resolved millions of cases last year, saving billions in revenue. Just last week, over 2.5 million cases, including traffic fines, bounced checks, and property or monetary disputes, were resolved. This helped reduce the burden of cases on the courts.
Please note that NALSA’s toll-free number is 15100. Anyone can call for free legal aid or advice. According to officials, more than three thousand calls are received daily from across the country. Soon, people will also be able to communicate their issues via voice calls to NALSA or DALSA. NALSA’s technical team is also developing a mobile app for this purpose.
