After murdering Saurabh Rajput on March 3 and sealing his remains in a cemented blue drum, Muskaan Rastogi (27) and Sahil Shukla (25) traveled to Kasol on March 10. They checked out after six days and returned to Meerut on March 17, where Muskaan celebrated Sahil's birthday on March 11. The police team extended its probe to Manali and Kasol in Himachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the postmortem report on Saurabh Rajput's body revealed harrowing details of the brutality inflicted by Muskaan and Sahil. The report indicated decapitation and severed wrists, with legs bent backward. Initial efforts showed they attempted to fit the body in the drum without dismemberment. Death resulted from shock and extensive blood loss, with sharp objects thrust into Saurabh's heart thrice.

A doctor stated, "The deep stabs by a long, sharp knife pierced Saurabh's heart," corroborated by Superintendent Ayush Vikram Singh. "Muskaan's brutal attack caused Saurabh's heart to rupture, his throat and wrists were severed, and his body was dissected into four parts to fit the drum," confirmed a postmortem team member. "The body was encased in cement inside the drum, preserving it due to an absence of air," they added.
