After film industry giants like Kangana Ranaut and Govinda have entered the political arena, rumors have been swirling about another big Bollywood name making a comeback to politics—and that's Sanjay Dutt. With his connections to political circles predating this buzz, the question on everyone's minds is, will Sanjay take the plunge once again?
Recent news and social media discussions hinted that Dutt could test his might in the upcoming electoral tussles. In response, Sanjay posted on his past Twitter account, quashing the rumors of his political ventures.
Is Sanjay Dutt Stepping Into Politics?
In a definitive statement posted on social media, Sanjay Dutt said, 'I would like to put to rest all speculations about my entry into politics. I am not joining any party nor contesting in elections.' He added that should he decide to enter the political realm in the future, it wouldn't be a secret. 'Should I ever decide to join politics, I will announce it myself. Please disregard the current unfounded rumors circulating about me,' he wrote.
Sanjay Dutt's Political Past
This isn't the first time that Sanjay had to address rumors about his political engagements. According to Free Press Journal, in 2019, Dutt denied claims made by a Maharashtra minister that he would join the Rashtriya Samaj Paksha party.
Previously, upon a close friend's suggestion, Sanjay Dutt had considered contesting the Lok Sabha elections in 2009 as a candidate for the Samajwadi Party, although he later withdrew his nomination. He was subsequently appointed as the general secretary of the party but resigned in 2010. Sanjay's father, Sunil Dutt, had a lengthy political career as a Congress party MP.
Talking about Sanjay's upcoming projects, he will be seen in the sci-fi comedy 'The Virgin Tree,' starring along with Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy, and Palak Tiwari. Following that, he will appear in 'Welcome to the Jungle' alongside Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, and Disha Patani. This film is slated for a theatrical release by December 2024.
