The police have filed a charge sheet in court regarding the recent violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. A detailed charge sheet comprising approximately 3,000 pages was presented, with 79 accused named.
Charge sheets have been submitted for cases registered under Sadar Kotwali and Sambhal jurisdiction, targeting the 79 arrested individuals under severe charges such as rioting, arson, and firing.
Charge Sheet for Six Cases Submitted
In connection to the violence, a comprehensive charge sheet covering six cases has been prepared by the police, including acts of shooting, arson, and stone-pelting. To date, 79 suspects, incorporating three women, have been detained.
Four Fatalities and 29 Injured Officers
It is noteworthy that during the Sambhal unrest, four lives were lost, and 29 police officers and administrative personnel were injured. ASP Shreechand of Sambhal has verified the submission of the charge sheet in court. The police affirm ongoing action against the accused based on evidence, with further investigations continuing. The turmoil resulted in damages exceeding one crore to property, which the police plan to recover from the troublemakers.
When and How Did the Violence Unfold in Sambhal?
On November 24, violence erupted in Sambhal district when a local court ordered a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, leading to four fatalities and injuries to around two dozen individuals, including police officers. The police initiated cases against more than 2,500 individuals, many unidentified. Those charged include Zia Ur Rahman Barq, MP of the Samajwadi Party from Sambhal, and Sohail Iqbal, the son of Iqbal Mahmood, Sambhal's legislator.
