In a dramatic turn of events, fingerprints taken from the residence of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan have matched those of the alleged attacker, Bangladeshi national Mohammed Shariful Islam Shehzad. Mumbai Police's crime branch methodically collected these prints from Saif's son Jahangir's room, various door handles, and staircases, and sent them for forensic analysis where they found a match with the accused.
Concern for the Khan family's safety has led to the deployment of two constables in two shifts outside Saif Ali Khan's Bandra residence. A senior police officer stated, "We have installed temporary police security outside Saif's residence in Bandra West, with CCTV cameras and security grills as an added measure. Interrogations with the suspect continue."
The accused, Mohammed Shariful Islam Shehzad, is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, where the police will seek an extension of his remand. The court initially placed him in police custody for five days on Sunday. Since then, the police have been actively questioning him and recreating the crime scene. Teams from the FSL division, including TASI, Biology, DNA, Footprints, Physics, and Cyber, are actively participating in this case.
A police officer revealed that during the investigation, they found the third segment of the knife used in the attack near a pond. "We took the suspect to the pond on Wednesday evening, where we recovered the missing piece of the knife. During the attack, a portion of the knife broke and lodged near the actor's spine, which was skillfully removed by doctors at Lilavati Hospital."

New evidence links Mohammed Shariful Islam Shehzad to Bangladesh; his Bangladeshi ID card and driving license have been found by the Mumbai Police crime branch. The ID names him as Shariful Islam, and his father's name as Mohammed Ruhul Amin, establishing his identity as a 31-year-old Bangladeshi citizen. Last Sunday, the police arrested him based on this evidence.
The accused, who had assumed the name Vijay Das, was residing illegally in Mumbai. Originally from Barisal in Bangladesh, he had been living in Mumbai for five months, working through a housekeeping agency. He crossed into India illegally via the Dawki River seven months ago, stayed briefly in West Bengal, and moved to Mumbai in search of work.
According to preliminary police questioning, the accused scaled the walls of Saif Ali Khan's residence in Bandra. When he arrived, the security guards were asleep. A police official explained, "Both guards at the building where Saif resides were asleep when the intruder climbed over the boundary wall and gained entry."
Upon discovering the guards in deep slumber at the entrance, the accused made his way into the building through the main entry, where there was a lack of CCTV surveillance. To avoid making noise, he removed his shoes and placed them in his bag, along with turning off his phone. Investigations revealed zero CCTV surveillance in the building's corridors while both guards were in a restful state."
