Do you enjoy traveling solo and want to feel secure even at night? If so, this article is for you. There are some countries considered safe for wandering alone at night, thanks to their strong legal systems, social fabric, and efficient institutions.

In these nations, not only is the crime rate low, but the governance, surveillance, and community trust ensures a sense of safety, even at night. While India ranks among the mid-level countries on this list.

According to Gallup's report, Singapore ranks first with a score of 98%. Following are Tajikistan at 95%, China at 94%, and Oman also at 94%. Saudi Arabia scores 93%, Hong Kong 91%, Kuwait 91%, Norway 91%, Bahrain at 90%, and the United Arab Emirates at 90% are also included. These countries are known for their strict law enforcement and effective administration, providing a sense of safety to both citizens and tourists.

There are many reasons for these countries being at the top. In Singapore, China, and Gulf countries, the sense of safety comes from their strong governance and strict law enforcement. These nations have heavily invested in infrastructure and surveillance. On the other hand, safety in countries like Norway is based on mutual trust and social cohesion within the community. People believe their neighbors will abide by the law. These examples indicate that safety does not solely mean a lack of crime but trust in the systems (legal, institutional, or social) that comfort people about their environment.

This report also highlights that going out at night is not the same everywhere. Top-ranking countries are in Asia, the Gulf, and Northern Europe. Although India, with a score of 72%, stands above the global average and is comparable to Bulgaria and Cyprus, it reflects both positive progress and the challenges of urban infrastructure and social inequality. Meanwhile, parts of Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa rank lower, with Brazil at 51% and South Africa at 33%, showing the least confidence in safety.
