In the ODI series against New Zealand, the illustrious batsman Rohit Sharma hasn't been at his best. The former Indian captain managed to score only 26 runs in the Vadodara ODI, followed by 24 runs in the Rajkot ODI. Team India's Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate offered his thoughts on Rohit's form, suggesting that his low scores might be due to limited match practice. This remark has sparked a buzz in the Indian cricket community.
Now, former Team India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has voiced strong opposition to Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate's recent statement. Tiwary expressed his displeasure at ten Doeschate's comment, stating that ten Doeschate's international record is not even 5% of Rohit Sharma's career achievements.
Last October, Rohit Sharma was in stellar form during the ODI series against Australia, scoring a half-century and a century to secure the 'Player of the Series' award. He continued his form against South Africa. However, not playing big innings in the first two ODIs against New Zealand has resulted in the Assistant Coach's comments creating quite an uproar.
'He is a good person, but...'
Manoj Tiwary told news agency PTI, 'Ryan ten Doeschate was with KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) for four years with me. He is a good person, but he should have thought before making such statements. Although he played international cricket for the Netherlands, I say with full respect that his international record is not even 5% of Rohit Sharma's career. Rohit is not just a batsman but also a successful captain.'
Manoj Tiwary also added that if Ryan ten Doeschate, as part of the team management, makes such remarks, it could demoralize the player. Tiwary says, 'You are not speaking from home, you are inside management. Criticizing your player like this isn't right. Rohit has brought the Champions Trophy for the country and delivered many memorable wins. This comment is beyond comprehension. He should reconsider his statement.'
Ryan ten Doeschate mentioned limited match practice, but Rohit Sharma played two matches for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last month, scoring a brilliant century in the first match. The ongoing three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand is tied at 1-1, with the decider scheduled for January 18 in Indore. Rohit Sharma has retired from Tests and T20 Internationals, and until the England tour, he will be on a break.
