Rohit Arya (50), who held 17 children hostage at the R A Studio in Powai, Mumbai, has passed away in a hospital. The incident has brought to light an old conflict in his life. Originally from Pune, Rohit was involved in an education department project and claimed he was never compensated for it.
Reports reveal that Rohit Arya was on a hunger strike for a month in August 2024. On August 19, 2024, he was hospitalized after his health worsened. At that time, his wife Anjali Arya stated that the then-government did not address the financial dues owed to her husband, which amounted to crores.
After Rohit's demise, accusations resurfaced. His wife claimed that a promise made by a minister was left unfulfilled. Anjali stated that the Cleanliness Monitor project was Rohit's idea and was included in the 'My School, Beautiful School' plan by the minister. Although a sum of INR 20 million was sanctioned, neither the money nor credit was given to Rohit.
The then Joint Secretary of the School Education Department remarked that there was an error in the project and an investigation was necessary. Rohit accused that attempts were being made to frame him in a conspiracy.
In recent events, Rohit had lured 17 children and two others to the R A Studio in Powai under the pretense of an audition and took them hostage. The police swiftly intervened and safely rescued everyone. During the operation, Rohit was injured and later succumbed to his injuries.
