Eshwarappa is set to challenge Yediyurappa's son, BY Raghavendra, in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Even Home Minister Amit Shah had urged Eshwarappa to withdraw his nomination, but his requests fell on deaf ears.

The letter released by BJP states that Eshwarappa has breached party protocol by deciding to contest the Lok Sabha election as an independent, bringing embarrassment to the party. Consequently, the party has taken steps to expel him for six years. It's noteworthy that the former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, KS Eshwarappa, will be contesting the Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat against BS Yediyurappa's son, BY Raghavendra, as an independent. Eshwarappa asserts that his fight is against the family of the former Chief Minister and prominent Lingayat leader, Yediyurappa. He has also implicated Yediyurappa for not granting a ticket to his son, KE Kantesh, from the Haveri seat. During his election campaign, he had even used the PM's photograph, leading to a complaint from the BJP to the Election Commission.
