This man claims he is the real-life Mowgli, who lived among animals after going missing at the age of 8. His name is Elcio Alves do Nascimento. He revealed that on Christmas in 1978, he had a fight with his brother over a toy and left home.
Elcio, who hails from Brazil, narrated his life among wild animals. Describing the aftermath of his argument with his brother, he said, 'My father was very strict; he beat me with a stick, and I ran until I fell into a river. I swam to the shore, but by then, I was lost.' Now, Elcio is 53 years old.
According to the Daily Star, Elcio said he tried returning home but failed. He spent a night in the forest, kept moving but couldn't find a way out.
Elcio mentioned that during the rainy season, he slept in caves and consumed roots, fruits, coconuts, water-dwelling shrimp, and rotting wood larvae. He frequently encountered dangerous wild animals, including jaguars. Despite being attacked several times, he survived by climbing trees and hiding in caves. He realized there was no way out of the forest and never slept on the ground but always in trees.
Today, Elcio works as a lifeguard in the village of Baxio, in the state of Bahia, northeastern Brazil. He was discovered by a farmer in the forest when he was 11 and was subsequently rescued. The three years spent in the wilderness significantly impacted his life. His voice became rough due to living conditions, and adjusting to societal norms, like eating, took time. He had to be hospitalized due to illness.
Elcio explained that living like animals in the forest wasn't easy. He mentioned, 'My relatives believed I was dead and stopped searching for me.' After learning to live like humans again, he learned how to cook, got married, and now has two daughters and four grandchildren.
