Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the ruling BJP government on Thursday over the alleged rape of an 11-year-old Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh, demanding severe action against the perpetrator. He expressed his outrage in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, penned in Hindi, attributing the crimes to BJP's anti-Dalit and anti-women mindset, which he claims persists in the state.
The mute girl went missing on Tuesday and was discovered the following morning in a field, with blood flowing from her genitals and bite marks covering her body. She is currently being treated in a hospital where her condition is labeled as critical. Rahul Gandhi pointed out that such heinous acts clearly demonstrate the unsafe environment for Dalits and particularly daughters under the BJP governance in Uttar Pradesh.
He added, 'The consequence of BJP's anti-Dalit and anti-women mentality results in fearlessness among criminals and helplessness among victims! Until when will the daughters of Uttar Pradesh suffer such brutality?' The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha firmly insisted, 'We have a simple demand from the administration: exercise stringent action against the criminal and deliver swift justice to the victim and her family.' Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh police announced the arrest of a 24-year-old individual within 24 hours of the incident on Thursday.

In pursuit of the investigation, police discovered CCTV footage showing a man identified as Dan Singh escorting the girl away. Following Vidyasagar Mishra, Rampur's SP directives, three special teams were deployed, commencing a search operation in the area. The suspect was apprehended after a brief encounter with law enforcement on Wednesday night, during which he sustained injuries. Rampur SP confirmed the suspect's residence as Village Kharsol.
He explained, 'The accused lured the girl away as she left her house, ultimately assaulting her. The victim sustained severe injuries. She is receiving extensive medical care at the hospital. The police are proceeding with rigorous measures to ensure severe penalties against the culprit. We have access to electronic evidence and CCTV footage pertinent to this matter. This shocking event, which shames humanity, has sparked widespread outrage throughout the locality. Notably, the victim is also incapable of speaking and hearing.'
