A currency exchange heist under the pretext of foreign dollars has emerged in Barmer, Rajasthan. Workers from the Congo in Africa invited a currency exchanger to convert dollars, then absconded with 24.50 lakh rupees of Indian currency. The mastermind and two associates were soon arrested by the police.
The incident took place in Bandra village of Barmer on March 1, 2024. Suresh Barasa, a resident of Jaswant Sarai in Jodhpur, reported to the police that on March 1st, he received a call from an international number requesting currency conversion for dollars totaling 24.50 lakhs.

Mastermind and Cohorts Nabbed by Police
The rural station house officer, Dinesh Lakhawat, revealed that an in-depth investigation was launched upon receiving the complaint. CCTV footage from around Utarlai and the crime scene was scrutinized. Three suspects, aged 24, 27, and 22, confessed to the crime during police questioning.
Police recovered approximately 16 lakhs from the trio, who were also found to have split the stolen amount amongst themselves. Two of the arrested had previously been employed in Congo where they were paid in dollars. Active pursuit is on for the remaining accomplices and the rest of the stolen money.
