If you've faced disappointment when trying to book last-minute train tickets due to brokers, worry no more. Indian Railways is rolling out a new One-Time Password (OTP) system aimed at making ticket booking transparent and hassle-free. From December 6, an OTP sent to your mobile will be mandatory for booking last-minute train tickets on selected Central Railway trains. Tickets cannot be confirmed without this OTP, effectively curbing misuse and blocking brokers from gaming the system. This long-awaited change promises increased convenience and transparency for passengers.
Where will this new railway rule apply?
The OTP-based system will be implemented on quick bookings made through the computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters, authorized agents, the IRCTC website, or mobile app. The OTP will be sent to the same mobile number used during the booking process, and only after the OTP is entered will the ticket be confirmed.
Which trains will adopt this rule first?
According to railway officials, this rule will be enforced on 13 trains starting December 6, including Duronto and Vande Bharat Express trains. Additionally, for the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express, it will come into effect on December 5. The Pune-Hyderabad Shatabdi Express has already implemented this system from December 1. Plans are underway to expand this OTP-based system to all trains, bringing extensive transparency to the ticketing service.
