Indian National Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi visited Gaya in Bihar today, where he was set to visit Dashrath Manjhi's home, famously known as the Mountain Man. To accommodate this visit, the Bihar government swiftly constructed a VIP bathroom right outside Manjhi's house this morning.
Officials Dismantle Bathroom After Rahul's Departure
However, the moment Gandhi left, the entire setup was dismantled by officials and hauled away. Meanwhile, Dashrath Manjhi's family stated they have not received any permanent toilet facilities from the government to date.
Manjhi's granddaughter, Anshu Kumari, recollected that a toilet was constructed by the government in 2015, but it was later demolished to build a road, leaving them without a facility for nearly a decade.
Manjhi's Family Seeks Election Ticket from Rahul Gandhi
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the renowned Gehlaur village, meeting the 'Mountain Man' Dashrath Manjhi's family. This visit is strategically seen to strengthen ties with Dalit community voters.
In Gehlaur, Gandhi held discussions with Dashrath Manjhi's son, Bhagirath Manjhi. During this interaction, Bhagirath tabled two significant requests. Firstly, to transform their mud house into a permanent structure, and secondly, to grant his daughter Anshu Kumari the Congress party ticket for the upcoming elections for the Bodh Gaya assembly seat.
Gandhi attentively listened to their concerns and assured them that the Congress party would consider their issues and suggestions earnestly. This encounter is perceived as a crucial effort by the Congress to fortify its influence among the Dalit community.
