Amidst the electoral campaign in Punjab, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made a heartfelt tribute on Wednesday to the late singer Sidhu Moose Wala, highlighting the persistent and growing problem of drug addiction in the region during a rally supporting candidate Amarinder Singh Raja Waring.

Addressing the rally in Ludhiana, Gandhi underscored the necessity of stringent action against the escalating drug crisis. He advocated for Punjab to battle the issue with full authority and aggression.

Targeting the BJP government, Gandhi also declared that it is unprecedented for a political party and its leaders to threaten amendments to the Constitution if victorious in the elections.

Additionally, Gandhi paid homage to Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala on his death anniversary. Moose Wala's father, Balkaur Singh, stood on stage during the ceremony which concluded with the playing of Moose Wala's popular song '295'.

On Tuesday in Amritsar, Kharge expressed that the drug issue has become a formidable challenge for the future of Punjab. The Congress president lamented that deteriorating law and order, fuelled by this problem, is compelling farmers to sell their land and send their children abroad to escape the drug epidemic. The lack of employment opportunities is forcing people to emigrate, he said.

It is pertinent that in Punjab, there is a direct contest between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress. These parties are a part of the AAP India Block, competing together in regions like Delhi, Goa, and Gujarat, except in Punjab where they have decided to contest separately.
