Congress has declared its first roster of nominees for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, announcing a total of 39 candidates. Party leaders KC Venugopal and Ajay Maken released the list during a press conference. Among the listed are high-profile candidates like Rahul Gandhi and Bhupesh Baghel. The election dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are expected to be declared in the next seven days. According to sources, the election could unfold in seven phases. But before that, the political mercury is rising as all parties are busy finalizing their lists of candidates. BJP has already released a list of 195 candidates, and many regional parties have followed suit.

KC Venugopal announced the candidate list at a press conference. With the announcement came confirmation that Rahul Gandhi will contest from Wayanad and Bhupesh Baghel from Rajnandgaon. The list includes 15 general candidates, and 24 belonging to SC-ST, OBC, and minority categories. Of these, 12 candidates are below the age of 50.

No UP candidates declared yet

Congress has yet to announce candidates for the seats in Uttar Pradesh in its first list. The party is contesting elections in the state under the INDIA alliance, and the Samajwadi Party has allocated 17 seats to Congress. These seats include Amethi, Rae Bareli, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Maharajganj, Deoria, Bansgaon, Sitapur, Amroha, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Jhansi, Barabanki, Fatehpur Sikri, Saharanpur, and Mathura. However, the party has not yet declared candidates for any of these seats.

Congress lists promises for 2024

During the press conference, party leader Venugopal reminded the public of the promises made recently by the party. He affirmed that upon gaining power, the party would offer 30 lakh jobs at the center and establish an act guaranteeing apprenticeships. Congress is vigilant about preventing paper leaks and will make every endeavor to stop them. Moreover, several significant decisions will be taken for the better future of the youth.

Discussions on candidates in CEC meeting

It's worth mentioning that a CEC meeting chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge discussed Lok Sabha seats in 11 states and union territories, which included Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Sikkim, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Lakshadweep. The names for 39 of these seats have now been announced. Deliberations for the remaining seats are ongoing, and it is expected that the party will release its second list in the coming days.
