Amid the Maharashtra assembly elections, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi directly attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He criticized the BJP's election slogan 'United We Stand' by drawing a connection to the Dharavi project with industrialist Gautam Adani. Rahul opened a ledger and displayed posters, arguing that Dharavi's future isn't secure. He questioned whose safety is ensured, suggesting that this project will harm the people of Dharavi.
During a Monday press conference in Mumbai, Rahul unveiled two posters from a cabinet. The first poster featured images of Gautam Adani and PM Modi, while the second displayed a map of Dharavi. He used these visuals to raise concerns about the Dharavi project.
Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the Maharashtra election is a battle of ideologies, highlighting a clash between a few billionaires and the poor. Billionaires aim to acquire Mumbai's land, and estimates show that a single billionaire could receive benefits worth one trillion rupees.
Rahul stated, "Our vision is to support Maharashtra's farmers, the poor, the unemployed, and youth. We will deposit ₹3000 in every woman's bank account. Women and farmers will benefit from free bus travel, and loans up to ₹300,000 will be waived. A Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹7,000 per quintal for soybeans will be offered. We're carrying out caste censuses in Telangana and Karnataka, and we'll do the same in Maharashtra."
Rahul Gandhi highlighted that unemployment and rising prices are the main issues in the Maharashtra elections. Our focus is on women, youth, and farmers. Caste census initiatives will be repeated in Maharashtra following successful implementations in Karnataka and Telangana. We will overcome the 50% reservation barrier, provide ₹2.5 million in healthcare insurance, and recruit for 2.5 lakh government jobs. These are the nation's most pressing matters. We have calculated MSPs and rates for the soybean crop and will fulfill our commitments.
Rahul affirmed that Modi's slogan 'United We Stand' was exposed by unlocking the locker with photos of Adani and Modi, unveiling the Dharavi redevelopment map. Rahul accused that the slogan indicates Mumbai's fate is endangered.
Rahul claimed that the Dharavi redevelopment is unjust and benefits a single individual. He questioned the tender process, alleging that one person is receiving control over all ports, airports, and finances in India. Rahul expressed concerns about major projects being stripped away from Maharashtra. An estimated ₹7 trillion worth of projects and 5 lakh jobs are being obliterated.
Rahul Gandhi expressed support for Uddhav Thackeray's declaration that if they return to power, the Dharavi redevelopment project tender will be annulled in the first cabinet meeting.
There are a total of 288 seats in Maharashtra, with voting scheduled for November 20 in a single phase. The results will be announced on November 23.
