Elections for Haryana's 90 assembly seats are set for October 5. The Congress Party is in deep deliberation over it. On Monday, a meeting of the Congress Election Committee was held to discuss the names of 49 candidates. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi is keen on forming an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in Haryana and has requested feedback from state leaders during the CEC meeting. It is likely that Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Garhi Kiloi and Uday Bhan from Hodal will get the green light.

The central election committee of the Congress party held a meeting on Monday and finalized the names of 34 candidates for the Haryana assembly elections. AICC in-charge for Haryana, Deepak Babaria, mentioned that the final list will be released by Wednesday. He also stated that the speculation around Vinesh Phogat will be addressed by Tuesday. Babaria reported that the state screening committee presented a list of 49 names, 34 of which have been approved while 15 are pending. The approval was given to 22 sitting MLAs. The meeting will continue on Tuesday, with an expected final list announcement by Wednesday.

Babaria mentioned that some names have been sent to the review committee, which will decide on them on Tuesday. The panel includes the chief of Congress's Haryana unit and the leader of the legislative party. He emphasized that the selection criteria are based on the likelihood of the candidates' success, ensuring candidates who haven't lost more than twice.

Sources told PTI that the list approved on Monday includes former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's name. Babaria said the meeting would continue on Tuesday to discuss the remaining 41 seats.

Babaria speaks on MPs contesting assembly elections

When asked whether all names would be declared in the first list or some would be held back, Babaria clarified that all names would be released together. Regarding the earlier comments on a decision by the High Command about MPs contesting the elections, Babaria said no such directive has been received so far.

Regarding Haryana MLA Devender Singh Babli, who joined BJP on Monday, Babaria shared that Babli wanted to join Congress but faced resistance from many workers due to his negative role in the farmer movement and his anti-people image. Babaria told Babli that he couldn't grant him a ticket right away since Babli wasn’t formally part of the party yet.
