Amidst leadership transition in Punjab, Ajay Veer Jakhar, the Chairman of the Punjab Farmers Commission, has resigned. Ajay Veer Jakhar is the nephew of Congress leader Sunil Jakhar. After Captain Amarinder Singh's resignation, Sunil Jakhar's name was prominent in the Chief Ministerial race. However, the Congress high command later decided on Charanjit Singh Channi for the position.
Controversy Persists in Punjab
Although the Congress leadership replaced Amarinder Singh with Charanjit Singh Channi as Chief Minister, the internal disputes within the party remain unresolved. Senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar's statement has brought these issues to light.
In fact, Punjab's in-charge Harish Rawat mentioned that the party had already considered Charanjit Singh Channi. The party president will decide who will be Congress's face in the upcoming election. Given the current scenario, it seems the election will be led by Punjab Government's cabinet and state president Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Jakhar Expresses Opposition
Congress leader Sunil Jakhar expressed his disagreement with Harish Rawat's statement through a tweet. Jakhar commented that Harish Rawat's statement, made on the day of Charanjit Singh Channi's oath-taking, was startling, undermining the Chief Minister's authority and questioning the selection process.
Statements Fly Within Congress
Congress leader Harminder Singh Gill remarked that appointing Charanjit Singh Channi as Punjab’s Chief Minister was the decision of the party leaders, not Harish Rawat. He added that only Sunil Jakhar could comment on his statement.
