Zika virus is spreading in Pune, Maharashtra, with 6 cases being reported, including two pregnant women.
Health department officials indicate a 28-year-old pregnant woman from Erandwane area has been infected with the Zika virus. Another pregnant woman, 12 weeks into her pregnancy, has also tested positive. Fortunately, both women are currently in stable condition.
Pregnant Women at Higher Risk
Zika virus can be particularly dangerous for pregnant women as it may result in microcephaly in fetuses, a condition characterized by abnormal brain development resulting in a smaller head size.

Infection Spreads to Doctor and Daughter
The first case of Zika infection in Pune's Erandwane area was a 46-year-old doctor, followed by his 15-year-old daughter testing positive. Additionally, two more cases were found in Mundhwa area, including a 47-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man.
Municipal Corporation Undertakes Fogging and Fumigation
The Pune Municipal Corporation's health department is closely monitoring all patients. Fogging and fumigation are being conducted as precautions to prevent the spread of the virus by infected mosquitoes.
Zika First Identified in Uganda
It should be noted that the Zika virus, transmitted by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, known for spreading dengue and chikungunya as well, was first identified in Uganda in 1947.
