Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, accusing the nation's foremost leader of abandoning morality, engaging in theatrics before the people and not walking the path of truth. She stated that the government is attempting to weaken the opposition by silencing their voice, seizing their bank accounts, and incarcerating two chief ministers. 'You were shown a Superman's image,' Priyanka stated, 'but what you got was Inflation-Man.' The stark truth, she asserted, is that the government has done nothing for you in these ten years.
Addressing a public assembly in Karnataka's capital, Bangalore, Priyanka said, 'There was a time when leaders stood tall and were expected by the nation's people to be moral beings. But today, the biggest leader of the country has forsaken morality and performs before you. There was a time when we hoped our leaders would follow the truth. However, today the nation's most prominent leader flaunts their power, their honour, and their fame, but fails to tread the path of honesty. Gone are the times when leaders were altruistic and service-oriented. Now, people only see arrogance in the largest leader of the nation.'
'Indira Gandhi Gave Her Gold to the Nation'
'In the last two days, it has started being said that Congress members want to snatch away your mangalsutra and gold. The country has been free for 70 years, Congress has governed for 55 of those; did anyone rob your gold or mangalsutra? When there was war in the country, Indira Gandhi pledged her gold to the nation and my mother's mangalsutra (belonging to Rajiv Gandhi) was sacrificed for the country,' Priyanka claimed. 'Had Modi understood the importance of a mangalsutra, he would not have made such remarks. During demonetization, he took away the savings of the women. When 600 farmers died during the protests, did Modi think about the mangalsutras of those widows? When a woman in Manipur was paraded naked, Modi was silent; did he think about her mangalsutra then? Now he is saying such things to women, scaring them to vote out of fear,' she declared.
Priyanka asserted that serving the country with the sentiment of service to others is in line with Hindu traditions as well as political traditions. All former prime ministers worked for the people with dedication, regardless of their party allegiance. But today, Modi's government is dominated by falsehoods. Nobody dares to criticize the BJP, which has broken all democratic values to topple governments.
'BJP Misled the Country for 10 Years'
About the electoral bond scheme, the Congress leader mentioned that the companies that were raided gave donations to BJP and then had their cases closed. She continued, 'It's now clear how the black money was turned white through demonetization and then deposited into BJP's account. Companies incapable of earning even 100 crores have somehow donated 1,100 crores to BJP (under the electoral bond scheme). The opposition is targeted by calling them corrupt, but in reality, it is the BJP that is corrupt and has misled the nation for the last ten years.'
Regarding the statements of the BJP leader that they will change the constitution, Priyanka warned the people to remain cautious. 'One should carefully listen to those speaking about changing the constitution because it will directly impact your lives. Efforts are being made to weaken democracy. But what will happen if the constitution changes? Your rights will be weakened, your strength will wither because every person in this country, of any caste, any religion, be it the farmer or the prime minister, are granted equal rights under the constitution. For the first time in our nation, two chief ministers have been arrested before an election, accounts of one of the largest political parties have been frozen,' she said.
'If Modi is such a Great Leader Then...'
'BJP leaders never talk about employment, education, nor health facilities, they only speak on inflammatory and distracting topics. Modi is claimed to be the world's greatest leader who could end ongoing wars with a snap of his fingers. I want to ask you, if he (Modi) is such a great leader, if he wields so much influence that nobody can question him, then why has he failed to generate employment for you, reduce inflation, introduce new schemes for the youth, and bring development to your families?' Priyanka questioned.
